The development of past and future life stories in adolescence: Overall emotional tone, coherence and life script events

Research has shown that identity in adolescence takes the shape of a coherent life story integrates past with present self and provides meaning purpose person’s life. One stable feature narrative identified adults is emotional tone. Here, development tone stories was investigated across childhood adolescence. A total 142 adolescents aged 10 to 14 years wrote about their weekend, future generated cultural script. Across age groups, told were overall mixed (both positive negative) or moderately tone, highly positive. In relation development, we replicated findings on age-related coherence both 10–14-year-olds. Lastly, study highlights link between script abilities. Cultural typicality linked for all majority events mentioned overlapped events.
